Who is Jimlet Converter for?
Jimlet Converter is intended for privacy-oriented people and for those who need to convert large amounts of text without subscriptions or usage-based pricing.
It runs locally on your own computer and does not send the texts you convert outside.
Does it work completely offline?
The TTS model itself is not included in the downloadable ZIP file because it is around 380 MB in size.
On the first attempt to convert text, Jimlet Converter downloads the model and caches it locally. After that, the cached version is used unless it is removed or altered.
Once the model has been downloaded, the program should work without an Internet connection.
How do I add pauses to generated speech?
Add a <break time="3s" /> tag to the text where you want the pause to be inserted. Replace 3s with the desired pause length.
Occasionally, some words are skipped or repeated
By default, Jimlet uses settings that balance conversion speed and audio accuracy, which may not be ideal for every machine. Try opening the Settings tab and setting "Quality" to the maximum value (12). Higher quality improves accuracy but makes conversion slower.
What are the copyright terms for the voices?
As far as the voices are concerned, to the best of our understanding, the model was trained on public domain speech recordings, and the generated audio is new synthetic output rather than copies of existing recordings, so it should not raise copyright issues.
However, if the speech output is based on copyrighted text, it is still subject to the copyright of that text in most places.
