Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Jimlet Converter for?

Jimlet Converter is intended for privacy-oriented people and for those who need to convert large amounts of text without subscriptions or usage-based pricing.

It runs locally on your own computer and does not send the texts you convert outside.

Does it work completely offline?

The TTS model itself is not included in the downloadable ZIP file. The model is downloaded automatically on the first attempt to convert text. After that, the program should work without an Internet connection.

How do I add pauses to generated speech?

Add a <break time="3s" /> tag to the text where you want the pause to be inserted. Replace 3s with the desired pause length.

What are the copyright terms for the voices?

As far as the voices are concerned, to the best of our understanding, the model was trained on public domain speech recordings, and the generated audio is new synthetic output rather than copies of existing recordings, so it should not raise copyright issues.

However, if the speech output is based on copyrighted text, it is still subject to the copyright of that text in most places.

Is PDF supported?

Not directly. Automatic PDF-to-text conversion is not perfect, and editing the output is almost always required for an enjoyable listening experience.

As a minimal workaround, you can open a PDF document in your browser, copy the parts of the text you want to hear into Notepad, save the result as a text file, and then convert the text file to speech as usual.

How do I upgrade to the Regular Version?

The evaluation version is intended for evaluation only. It may occasionally include attribution messages in generated speech output.

You can Upgrade to the Regular Version to disable this feature.
